lexington municipal auditorium, 11th & franklin st.
the lexington municipal auditorium was originally built in 1939 as a federal wpa project. the main room includes a beautifully restored hardwood floor, a new drop ceiling and new window curtains. when tables are placed for dinner theatre seating, rcp can comfortably accommodate more than 100 patrons.
in 2009 the city of lexington shuttered the auditorium, because it does not meet current ada guidelines for access. renovations to meet these guidelines are going to be extremely expensive. rcp's 2009 fall production of "catch me if you can" raised $700 in donations from our rcp audience. the donation was made to the friends of the lexington municipal auditorium fund.
in august 2013, rcp was directed to remove all props, set pieces and belongings from the premesis by the lexington auditorium association.the building remains closed.
